MATCH REPORTS FOR APR | MAR | FEB | JAN | DEC | NOV | OCT | SEP

Saturday 3rd April
A 1-1 draw away at Horsham Trinity 2nds

Did I say Plaistows pitch was bad! Trinitys looked like a paddy field!

Horsham Trinity are good side that have had some good results and beaten a couple of the sidse that could be considered the “top four”. We travelled to Trinity without our rock in defence and an injured keeper that refuses to rest for the good of the team. Stand-in centre half M Smith got a rare start and was keen to impress. He put in a near faultless performance, near faultless only because he gave away a needless first half penalty which turned out to be Trinity's only real chance of the game. Smithy didn’t put another foot wrong and he is still upset by the penalty. Having said all that our keeper did make some good saves from range but Trinity didn’t really lay serious siege on our goal. Again we struggled to get the ball down and settle into a decent rhythm, but when we did we were by far the better side and 1-1 flattered Trinity in the end (even their players have said so since!) We did play some good football in spells and again we missed far too many chances. we may be looking back at today saying those 2 points would have done it……….. Any 2 of the 6 recently dropped points would have probably seen us promoted with games left to play.

Saturday 10th April
A 3-0 win away at Wisborough Green 2nds

Wisborough Green gave us a good game in the home fixture at the beginning of the season so despite their league position this game was not 3 points in the bag. We desperately needed to get back to wining ways if we wanted to be in contention at the end of the season. The message was well received by the squad. The instructions to get the ball down and play round them were taken notice of and we were in control from the first whistle. It looked like it was going to be another one of those days where we were going to create chance after chance and not take advantage, then came that little bit of luck that most teams (even Chelsea) need to win the league. Their keeper let a soft looking shot squirm under him and we go 1-0 up. Then disaster struck when our ever reliable defensive midfield warrior took a blow to his nose and it looks to be season over for Danny. He is going to be greatly missed and this may now see a come back being made by the Gaffer. Going in 1-0 upthe lads were confident that we were in control and would go on and increase our lead.

The second half started at a fierce tempo and we were looking stronger than ever still creating chances and missing them but Ali Green slotted from a near impossible angle. Dan Budd got frustrated and as the game wore on so did that frustration. That only meant one thing for Wisborough and the third goal eventually arrived, a long ball from Charman in goal missed by the Wisborough back four smashed home by Budd.

We stay on the road for the next fixture against West Chiltington 2nds, another must win game. The boys won't need much more motivating after finding out Forrest were smashed 5 nil today. The only problem is it was West Chilt that handed out the beating!!!!!!
